History

Plans to establish a Faculty of Psychology at Diponegoro University began in 1980, and were realized by accepting several Psychology graduates as lecturers across several faculties within Undip, namely the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, the Faculty of Letters, and the Faculty of Public Health. These lecturers with a background in psychology were also involved in the Diponegoro University Student Consultative Body (BKM Undip).

In 1991, Undip Rector, Prof. Dr. Moeljono S. Trastotenojo, obtained permission from the Minister of Education and Culture, Prof. Dr. Fuad Hasan, to establish a Faculty of Psychology.

The diligent efforts to establish the Faculty of Psychology at Undip borne fruit with the issuance of Decree No. 362/Dikti/Kep/1995 from the Director General of Higher Education on August 18, 1995, which was handed over to Undip Rector, Prof. Dr. Muladi, S.H., as the basis for establishing the Undergraduate Psychology Study Program under the Undip Faculty of Medicine.

The Chancellor appointed Drs. Darmanto Jatman, S.U., as the first Head of the Undip Psychology Study Program. The lecturers who pioneered the early work of the Undip Psychology Undergraduate Study Program at that time were:

Occupying a unit within the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (now the Faculty of Science and Mathematics or FSM), in the 1996/1997 academic year, the Undip Psychology Study Program began accepting new students and commenced teaching and learning activities.

On August 16, 2000, the Undip Psychology Study Program officially moved into a new building on the Tembalang campus. Since then, all teaching and learning processes have been centralized in this building.
The Undip Psychology Study Program officially became the Faculty of Psychology on April 24, 2007, with the issuance of Undip Rector’s Decree Number 28/SK/J07/2007 concerning the Establishment of the Faculty of Psychology.

The legal basis for this change in status to a faculty was further strengthened by the issuance of Decree of the Minister of National Education Number 65 of 2009 concerning Undip’s Organization and Work Procedures. Effective October 2, 2009, the Faculty of Psychology became the 11th faculty within Diponegoro University. The first dean elected was Drs. Karyono, M.Si.

In 2007, Drs. Darmanto Jatman, S.U., who had retired at the time, was inaugurated as the first professor of the Undip Faculty of Psychology. From his thoughts, the beginnings of the faculty’s vision for family-based psychology, particularly Indonesian families, began to emerge and be socialized.

In 2010, the Faculty of Psychology, Diponegoro University (Undip), acquired a new dean’s office building adjacent to the old one. The Faculty of Psychology continues to grow to this day. Prospective student interest in the Faculty of Psychology has increased annually. The number of permanent lecturers and administrative staff has changed and is continually being adjusted to reflect the number of students served, supported by increasingly comprehensive facilities and infrastructure. The Faculty of Psychology Senate, in its decision on December 4, 2013, determined that August 18th would be the anniversary of the Faculty of Psychology.

In 2018, construction began on a new building for the Faculty of Psychology at Diponegoro University, while the previous building will house the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Public Health. The Faculty of Psychology currently occupies the new building overlooking the ocean.

From 2000 to 2018, the Psychology Undergraduate Study Program at the Faculty of Psychology, Diponegoro University was accredited B by the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT). The latest B accreditation Decree No. 174/SK/BAN-PT/AK-XVI/VIII/2013 was valid until August 24, 2018. Subsequently, it officially received an A accreditation rating based on BAN-PT Decree No. 1109/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/IV/2018 which was valid from April 24, 2018 to April 24, 2023. The Faculty of Psychology, Diponegoro University is a member of the Association of Indonesian Psychology Higher Education Providers (AP2TPI) which has a spirit of cooperation to realize quality Psychology Higher Education that is able to compete at the global level.
